Crack Occurrence in Bodies with Gradient Polyconvex Energies

چکیده

In a set of infinitely many reference configurations differing from chosen fit region $${\mathscr {B}}$$ in the three-dimensional space and each other only by possible crack paths, parameterized special measures, namely curvature varifolds, energy minimality selects among continuous body those that are compatible with assigned boundary conditions Dirichlet-type. The use varifolds allows us to consider both “material phase" (cracked or non-cracked) orientation. considered is gradient polyconvex: it accounts for relative variations second-neighbor surfaces pressure-confinement effects. We prove existence minimizers such an energy. They pairs deformations varifolds. former ones taken be SBV maps satisfying impenetrability condition. Their jump constrained varifold support.

Crack growth in polyconvex materials∗

We discuss a model for crack propagation in an elastic body, where the crack path is described a-priori. In particular, we develop in the framework of finitestrain elasticity a rate-independent model for crack evolution which is based on the Griffith fracture criterion. Due to the nonuniqueness of minimizing deformations, the energy-release rate is no longer continuous with respect to time and ...

Optimality conditions for multidimensional control problems with polyconvex gradient restrictions

The motivation for a closer investigation of Dieudonné-Rashevsky type problems (P) is two-fold. First, due to its close affinity to the basic problem of multidimensional calculus of variations, the problem (1.3) − (1.5) is well-suited as a model problem in order to ascertain how the proof of optimality conditions is influenced through the weakening of the convexity properties of the data. Since...

Crack initiation in elastic bodies

In this paper we study the crack initiation in a hyper-elastic body governed by a Gri th's type energy. We prove that, during a load process through a time dependent boundary datum of the type t→ tg(x) and in absence of strong singularities (this is the case of homogeneous isotropic materials) the crack initiation is brutal, i.e., a big crack appears after a positive time ti > 0. On the contrar...

Crack Detection In Functionally Graded Beams Using Conjugate Gradient Method

In this paper the conjugate gradient (CG) method is employed for identifying the parameters of crack in a functionally graded beam from natural frequency measurement. The crack is modeled as a massless rotational spring with sectional flexibility. By using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory on two separate beams respectively and applying the compatibility requirements of the crack, the characteris...

On safe crack shapes in elastic bodies

According to the Gri th criterion, a crack propagation occurs provided that the derivative of the energy functional with respect to the crack length reaches some critical value. We consider a generalization of this criterion to the case of nonlinear cracks satisfying a non-penetration condition and investigate the dependence of the shape derivative of the energy functional on the crack shape. I...
